Artist statement: Fragmented abstractions, non-representational visions, one-sided cubes, forms, lines, and other moments of mystical clarity is a digital
print edition of an original collage. This work is part of a larger series
of works that reference taxonomic arrangements and other systems of
classification. Drawing from a broad range of paper sources, these collages
are made by mining the visual records of our collective past and
rearranging them into new, imagined collections of an alternative (or
possibly overlooked) natural history. These collages extend from the
artist's interest in the act of researching and envisioning possible
futures; specifically how fragments, choices, hybrids, and ideas of the
past/present construct the versions of the elsewhere futures we live/and
will live with in. Inspired by the life and works of Hilma af Klint, this
particular image imagines a taxonomy of abstraction and the relationships
non-representational forms have to the mystical or ineffable.
